Let’s Talk About the Election

The only way through is together.

At Safe Passage, our commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence and our resolve are as strong as ever in light of the increase in fear and risk that many members of our community are facing post-election. We know that domestic violence can affect anyone and also that the impact, escalation, and level of violence trends higher for those who face marginalization. In fact, we focus our work on those most marginalized in our communities. We aim to reach and support those who face increased challenges in accessing services, legal resources, and societal support that are vital for their safety and economic stability.

We put significant emphasis on the needs of survivors of domestic violence who are immigrants and transgender+ survivors.  We have staff who specialize in helping survivors of DV and trafficking obtain visas and seek asylum. We have staff who advocate for Trans and gender diverse communities, as well as LGBTQ+ folks who may be living in isolation. We have staff who are trained to understand the intricacies of navigating systems and safety while disabled. We have staff who work with survivors on safe housing and economic sustainability.

And, we are strong because we are inspired by the courage and perseverance of survivors. We will continue to think strategically, be responsive to the needs of our clients, put resources where they count, and stay in the community.  Everyone deserves safety and real options for moving from living with violence to safety and independence.
