Wrestling with Silk

Bonnie Ratner

Silk feels an elegant opponent

a slippery foe vulnerable

disarming shape shifting

difficult to corner

Wrestling with silk

is better naked like mud

better on your breasts like breath

better under the influence

Decades wrestling with silk

I lost deceived by mutable

Yet ineluctable

landscapes of longing

The oh so smooth retorts

the rustling stories held together

with sloppy stitching at the corners

but oh how strong those glossy threads

Truly you slipped out of touch immediately this

is what alluring does stays just out of reach

while the patient worm commits to the long

haul wriggles in deeper and rots the heart

But wait the spun supple body hold

wrestles with remembrance even now scarves

of jade or softer green say apple bough caress

and coax the busy worm to finery

This is its last great task

to bind me to you

to perpetually soften and infinitely charm so in

sleek folds I remember and keep you warm
