Murder House

Maddie Elam

He was a rebel without a cause—

battling addiction.

She told herself both of these things were okay.

To her, their home was a magical castle,

filled with pretty little things to distract

from the reality of the murder house.

The faces in the crowd could see, though,

what this truly was—

domestic violence.

They were mix & match fools.

He had a violent past but swore,

“I have nothing to hide.”

Breathe in,

he’s apologizing.

Breathe out,

the atmosphere has curdled.

She can see it—

he’s cold-blooded.

The suspicious details come to life.

Simple?

No. It’s complicated.

His evil smile brings her comic relief.

He was “the brutal killer who,”

but she was blinded by all those

pretty

little

things.

Welcome to the scariest place in the world,

the murder house.
